LloydsFarmacia (Italy) has won an International Salute to Excellence Award from the Private Label Manufacturers Association (PLMA) for LloydsPharmacy Natural Cough Syrup for Adults.
LloydsFarmacia, part of McKesson Europe, won in the OTC and Food Supplement category on 28 August 2020.
The reaction from the judging panel included comments such as: “fresh balanced taste”, “super good product”, “great taste”, “a top product” and “great taste for a cough syrup”.
The team at LloydsFarmacia were thrilled by the recognition and Valentina Candini, own brand category manager, said: “We knew how popular the product was with our customers - and our pharmacists too - because their feedback has been so good since the product launch. We’re so proud that an international jury thought the same!”
LloydsFarmacia’s Natural Cough Syrup for Adults is currently only available in Italy from its more than 200 pharmacies or its website.
The Salute to Excellence Awards were created to give recognition to retailers for quality and innovation in private label products and are granted once a year. Only new products that have been introduced within the past 12 months and that are currently available for purchase by consumers can be nominated. According to the Private Label Manufacturers Association, nearly 550 products introduced in the past year were submitted for consideration in the world’s largest competition dedicated exclusively to own brands.
Nearly 550 products from 70 retailers in 23 countries were submitted and selected for consideration, including food, beverages, home and household, and health and beauty categories. Entries were evaluated for taste, quality, appearance, packaging, product concept and value for money by panels of judges drawn from retailing, manufacturing, marketing, and trade journalism.

In our market we are now able to offer a wide range of own brands which are no longer considered by customers as just a cheap compromise to national brands but as destination products in their own right.”
The success for McKesson Europe’s Italian product comes following their Norwegian win at the 2019 PLMA International Salute to Excellence Awards for LloydsPharmacy Hot and Cold Pack.
