In our highly regulated sectors, red tape is an increasing business burden that should be minimised wherever possible. Where its sees the opportunity, McKesson Europe will always strive to introduce more effective ways of working.
This Policy Paper outlines the advantages that electronic prescribing of medicines (e-prescriptions) can deliver for patients, pharmacists, prescribers and payers. Unfortunately, due to numerous barriers to this still, which we explore here, many primary healthcare services in Europe have yet to make the most of this opportunity.
Our paper recommends pragmatic measures to facilitate the development of national e-prescription policies, including: phased introduction through national plans; oversight by a dedicated agency; commitment by all key healthcare stakeholders; and investment in IT infrastructure.
